I tried, but after six days, my interest has slipped off completely. The main characters just sounded too immature for my taste.

Dave was like a lovesick puppy in the beginning, and some of the things he said or thought just didn't make him sound like a "real" man.

God, I'm such a dingbat, Dave scolded himself.

The last time I called someone a dingbat, it was 1987.

Kathy just gave me whiplash, period. At 10% she said she wanted

"a normal relationship with an ordinary guy but I don't want it to be so 'safe' he becomes boring. I also don't want a criminal who brings cops, lying, and cheating right along with him."

Then, when she has to drive Dave home, there's a detective waiting for him. You'd think she'd immediately retreat in the wary zone, but no. Instead she pushes to stay and Dave gets mad and tells her to leave. To that she reacts with: He was just like all the others before him who said they cared and then treated her like crap. Well she wasn't going to take being walked over anymore. "You son of a bitch!" She raged while stomping into his house.

I would have been ticked off as well if someone I was just getting to know didn't respect my personal space. Asking for some privacy is not the same as treating someone like crap. Then she was turned on by his angry outburst. Then at 13% she says she doesn't want a relationship. Her indecisiveness was frustrating.

Kathy and Sophie's conversations were boring. Kathy would spill her guts about how Dave was making her feel, then suddenly she'd change the subject. I couldn't tell if that was a nervous quirk of hers or if it was just bad writing, no offense.

I gave up at 25% after this bit: at 18, Kathy had married her father's friend (a much older man). A few months after their secret wedding, she found him in bed with her parents. Oh, and he was abusive and a pedophile on top of that. She claimed he took advantage of her youth and innocence and he made her believe she was a failure in bed.

I'm sorry, but I just don't care about their journey beyond this point.

Overall, I felt that while this book was pretty good, it was also pretty predictable. The romance was sweet, the sex was fairly hot, and love conquered all.

Every girl likes a bad boy, and wants to tame one. I'm pretty sure that this was the epitome of Dave and Kathy's relationship. I know that Dave hasn't been a "bad boy" for a while now, but he still had that rough edge around him (he does own a bar after all).

Kathy was a cool character. I liked that she was strong and able, she got herself out of a nasty marriage, and away from her crazy parents. Her ex-husband was a piece of work. I understand that she was glad to be free of him, but I would not have had the restraint she did. I would have called the cops on his ass long ago.

I can't give this book the full amount of stars, simply because this plot line has been read way too many times by me lately, and nothing about it made it stand out from the others. Don't let that stop you from reading it though, it was definitely worth checking out. This is a book I would recommend for those of you on vacation with a few hours to spare between flights, or just lazing away at home with nothing to do.

Dave knows how to push boundaries and get all up in Kathy's space personally I don't think the girl minds, "I liked seeing you getting all aggressive with me, Kathy. You've got more spunk than you let on. Very, very sexy," he whispered and brought his face closer to hers." I mean he doesn't allow his mother's phone interupt their naughty activities, "she's stuttering so I'm taking that as a yes...No, I'm not pushing her into anything she doesn't want to do...Mom, please don't do that..." He cupped the back of kathy's head and with the phone still his ear, Dave kissed her brainless. "What? Yeah, you were interrupting something...No,, I'm not being fresh." He's just a funny, easy going guy that you can't help but love, "really? There's nothing you want to share? Or do you randomly yell at people on the phone? Because if that's what you do, let me know. We could always use it as a form of foreplay." With a devilish laugh, he added, "Then have makeup sex." Yeah this book was entertaining and really good.

For me it was bad. I kept reading hoping it would be better but it never got better :(
The characters were like the parody of themselves, always exaggerated in their reactions, they never seemed to me like normal people but it was a bit like a "Monty Python" movie if you know what I mean ;)

I loved the title of this book and wanted to try it. After I read the description, I figured I'd love it. The writing in this book was very good and I enjoyed it but I did have a couple of issues with the characters and pacing.

Kathy was really likable at first. I think I liked her for at least the first half of the book, probably more. She was raised by full-on hippies. Like living in the nude, free love hippies. I was fully prepared to love what I assumed would be hilarious interactions between a normal, slightly straight-laced Kathy and her eccentric but lovable parents. Umm, no. I had no idea that there were evil hippies but looks like there are and she's got them as parents. They married her to a pedophile who eventually cheated on her WITH HER PARENTS. I mean, guh-ross. But it gets even darker from there. The point though is that she had a pretty crappy childhood and a truly awful young adulthood. She feels like her past is shameful and she fights to keep it a secret. She seemed like a well adjusted, normal person, despite all of that. So it confused me why she was super secretive about it all. I mean, I totally understand being embarrassed by it all but she somehow felt that it reflected on her in some way. I think she felt like she was not worthy of love or something. It just didn't make sense to me, especially when Dave obviously was interested in her. But then she starts running away anytime something goes wrong and I started liking her less and less. She knows that Dave loves her. She knows that she loves him. But something big is going down in her life and she wants to keep it from him for one more day? Why??? And then she breaks down in a hysterical crying jag and I was all, "Where the hell did that come from?" I guess I just felt like her personality and her reactions to things were sort of all over the place.

Dave was a pretty good character. He has some kind of drug history that only gets a little light shed on it. I wasn't sure why he had been into drugs or how far into drugs he was. Was he just a user? Did he do low level sales? Or was he some kind of drug kingpin? I have no idea. But I loved Dave's relationship with his family. His mom and dad are awesome and it was refreshing to see a character appreciate their parents' awesomeness! I liked Dave because he really turned his life around. And it wasn't some shakey kind of sobriety, like he would relapse at any moment. He was better and was happy with his life and had no desire to go back to the way he was. But even Dave wasn't safe from curious behavior. I mean, he pretty much admits that he loves her at the start of the book. He's really into her but to me, it felt like he didn't trust her very much. Sure, it's a new relationship and trust has to be earned but he's worked with her, he's talked to her.. they know each other fairly well. But I kind of don't blame him for not giving her his trust because I sure as heck was sick of Kathy's shenanigans by the end of the book.

I think Kathy and Dave make a perfect couple. They are both pretty screwed up but they are able to find peace in each other. They're pretty hot together, too. Kathy's insistence on waiting for an "I love you" before having sex with Dave was a little strange for a romance novel but maybe some people like that. Other than that, this is a pretty typical couple: standing up for each other when bad stuff happens, fights over stupid things that lead to huge revelations, a harrowing disappearance that makes everyone thankful for everything. It's all here!

This was an okay book. The characters were just okay but a little confusing at times. I felt that a lot of information and transitions were missing in this book though. There were jumps between scenes and/or character perspectives that were very difficult to keep up with. I felt that there was a lot in this book that was assumed and that's not always the way to go in a romance novel. I like to experience the characters feelings and emotions. I don't just want to guess if they're there. I've not read any of this author's books before and this is Book 2 in her Unlikely Love series. So I don't think reading Book 1 first is a must. But for me, this book was only so-so and I don't think I'll be picking up the rest of this series.
