Rachel Campos-Duffy is a conservative television personality who made her first television appearance in 1994 as a cast member on the MTV reality show The Real World: before beginning work as a television host in San Francisco. Before moving to Fox News, where she hosted the show Outnumbered as a guest host before being hired as a permanent co-host on Fox & Friends Weekend in May 2021, she was a guest host on the ABC talk show The View.

On The Real World, Campos was cast: From February 12 to June 19, 1994, she moved into the house on Russian Hill in San Francisco with her six housemates. Pedro Zamora, her roommate and an AIDS educator, revealed to the other residents that he had AIDS on her first night in the house. Campos was uneasy and initially distanced herself from Zamora, but she eventually became friends with her. She had a turbulent friendship and a romantic relationship with David “Puck” Rainey, a housemate, while she was on the show. Judd Winick attributed her attraction to her preference for “bad boys,” or rebellious men.

Campos was a committed Catholic and Republican with a rebellious streak that occasionally put her and her parents at odds. When Mohammed Bilal made fun of her housing ideas in Episode 3 and when Winick said that the speakers at the College Republicans function were sexist, hom*ophobic, and racist, it caused conflict with her housemates. Campos recorded Road Rules in 1998: All Stars with other Real World alumni, including her future husband, Sean Duffy. Campos-Duffy defended the Trump administration’s controversial practice of separating immigrant families arrested at the US border on June 21, 2018, when she appeared on the Fox News program The Ingraham Angle. She stated, “The detention centers are far safer than the journey that these children just came on, and I will say this…people aren’t stupid,” in reference to the facilities where the children were housed. “Gosh, the conditions of the detention centers are better than some of the projects that I grew up in,” said one African-American I spoke with. Black Vox reporter Jane Coaston, writer Nikole Hannah-Jones for the New York Times, Essence magazine’s Britni Danielle, and filmmaker Ava DuVernay were among those who immediately voiced their disapproval of the remarks.
Campos-Duffy praised Montana Republican congressional candidate Greg Gianforte in 2017 for assaulting The Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs. After Jacobs attempted to interview him about the Republican health care plan, which Campos-Duffy referred to as “Montana justice,” Gianforte grabbed him, threw him to the ground, and punched him. This led to the incident.
Campos-Duffy asserted that the 2020 presidential election had been marred by “fraud and shenanigans” after Joe Biden defeated President Donald Trump. On Fox & Friends Weekend, Campos-Duffy was hired as a permanent co-host in May 2021.
Campos-Duffy blamed President Joe Biden’s “mental state” for the Taliban’s retaking of Afghanistan on August 22, 2021. She also slammed First Lady Jill Biden, claiming that by allowing her husband to run for president, she had sunk the nation. The following day, Michael LaRosa, Jill Biden’s press secretary, responded by declaring that the remarks were “disgusting” and that “[Campos-Duffy and Fox News] know better.” Their viewers deserve better, and they can do better. I hope they will make an apologies to the First Lady and put this kind of conversation in the trash, where it belongs.”
