Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon for topping, optional

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over low heat, whisk milk, nutmeg, and vanilla.
  2. Once mixed add the cinnamon stick
  3. Bring mixture to a low boil (3-4 min).
  4. Separate the eggs and whisk egg yolks with sugar until yolks are pale in color.
  5. Add a spoonful of the hot milk to the egg yolks and sugar. Mix well.
  6. Continue until about ¼ cup of hot liquid has been whisked in.
  7. Slowly pour in the remaining hot liquid, whisking repeatedly.
  8. Pour it all into the saucepan and cook over medium heat until it begins to thicken.
  9. It will coat the back of a spoon.
  10. Remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream.
  11. Chill until ready to serve
  12. Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon, a cinnamon stick or whipped cream.

Notes

You can add bourbon to this eggnog when the heavy cream is added.

Store in an airtight container (like a mason jar) will last up to 3 days.
